For more information on this award, please refer to<span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fairwork.gov.au\/employment-conditions\/awards\/awards-summary\/ma000089-summary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> the vehicle repair, services and retail award.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"title-idx-0\" class=\"icon-anchor\">What is the Vehicle Repair, Services and Retail Award?<\/h2>\n<p>The Vehicle Repair, Services and Retail Award, is a set of legal minimum employment standards and conditions that apply to employees working in the vehicle industry in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>The award sets out the minimum wage rates, working hours, overtime, annual leave, sick leave, and other entitlements for employees working in various roles within the vehicle industry, such as mechanics, automotive technicians, panel beaters, painters, fitters and turners, welders and automotive electricians and apprentices in these trades,car washers, polishers and detailers.The award is designed to ensure that employees in the electrical industry are treated fairly and receive reasonable pay and conditions for their work.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"title-idx-1\" class=\"icon-anchor\">Who is covered by the Vehicle Repair, Services and Retail Award?<\/h2>\n<h3>Coverage<\/h3>\n<p>The Vehicle Award covers employers in the vehicle industry and their employees who fit within the classifications of the award.<\/p>\n<p>The vehicle industry means:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">sale and distribution of vehicles and vehicle parts and accessories<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">sale of fuel and oils (including roadhouses run by the same business)<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">repairing, servicing and maintaining vehicles and vehicle parts and accessories (including servicing, repair and maintenance work in a motor vehicle rental business)<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">selling, retreading, fitting and repairing tyres<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">dismantling, wrecking, recycling, customising, modifying and restoring vehicles<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">roadside assistance, including towing vehicles<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">preparing vehicles for sale, including vehicle assembly<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">parking and storing vehicles<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">washing and detailing vehicles<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">driving schools.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Employees covered by the Vehicle Award include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">tradespersons such as mechanics, automotive technicians, panel beaters, painters, fitters and turners, welders and automotive electricians and apprentices in these trades<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">salespersons<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">driveway attendants, console operators and roadhouse attendants<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">car washers, polishers and detailers<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">tyre fitters and wheel aligners<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">tow truck drivers<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">windscreen fitters and repairs<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">service receptionists.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Vehicle Award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation in the vehicle industry.<\/p>\n<p>The following employers and employees are not covered by the Vehicle Award:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">car parking (if the business does not perform repairs or services)<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">motor vehicle rentals (unless connected with the repair, service and maintenance of vehicles and vehicle parts and accessories)<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">car and truck driving (unless associated with one of the activities above)<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">driving instructors<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">clerical employees (other than service reception)<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">repair, manufacturing and servicing of larger boats and vessels<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">vehicle manufacturing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"title-idx-2\" class=\"icon-anchor\">How are the hours of work arranged in Vehicle Repair, Services and Retail Award?<\/h2>\n<h3>Ordinary hours of work<\/h3>\n<p>ordinary hours of work of an employee will be an average of 38 hours per week ,worked on not more than 5 days in any week, calculated on the following basis:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">\u00a0\u00a038 hours within a work cycle not exceeding 7 consecutive days;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">\u00a076 hours within a work cycle not exceeding 14 consecutive days;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">\u00a0114 hours within a work cycle not exceeding 21 consecutive days;<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">\u00a0152 hours within a work cycle not exceeding 28 consecutive days; or<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">\u00a0\u00a0Any other work cycle during which a weekly average of 38 ordinary hours is worked or may be determined by agreement between the employer and an employee or employees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Breaks<\/h3>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Meal and rest breaks<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">\u00a0 Unpaid meal breaks will be not less than 30 minutes and not more than 60 minutes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">\u00a0Subject to the exceptions below, an employee will not be required to work for more than 5 hours without a meal break<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">The employer and the majority of employees in an establishment may agree that all employees in the establishment can be required to work up to 6 hours without a meal break<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">In addition to a meal break, an employer may provide to an employee either a morning or afternoon tea break not exceeding 15 minutes. Where a break is unpaid it must not exceed 15 minutes duration. Where both a morning and an afternoon tea break are provided on the same day or shift, at least one of these breaks must be paid.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">An employer may in appropriate circumstances reasonably require an employee to change the timing of a scheduled meal break or rest break to meet operational requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Rest breaks during overtime<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">An employee required to work overtime for more than one and a half hours after working ordinary hours will be allowed a crib break of 20 minutes before starting such overtime. The crib break will be paid at the minimum hourly rate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">\u00a0An employee required to work overtime will be allowed a crib break of 20 minutes without deduction of pay after each 4 hours of overtime worked provided work continues after the crib break.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Where a day worker is required to work overtime on a Saturday, the first prescribed crib break if occurring between 10.00 am and 1.00 pm will be paid at the minimum hourly rate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">An employer and employee may agree to any variation of clause to meet the circumstances of the work in hand, provided that the employer will not be required to make any payment in respect of any time allowed in excess of 20 minutes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Clause will not apply to an employee working overtime on a Sunday or public holiday unless the employee is rostered to work any of their ordinary
