The award includes provisions for classifications, penalty rates, and definitions of terms like casual and regular casual employees. Its purpose is to ensure fair employment practices in the educational services industry.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"title-idx-1\" class=\"icon-anchor\">Who is covered by the Educational Services (Schools) General Staff Award?<\/h2>\n<h3>Coverage<\/h3>\n<p>The Educational Services (Schools) General Staff Award applies to employers and employees in the school education industry who fall under the specified classifications of the award.<\/p>\n<p>The school education industry means providing education in a school that is registered and\/or accredited by the relevant authority in each state or territory, including all operations of the school. Additionally, it also includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">preschools<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">early childhood education<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">early childhood services operated by a school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Where the provision of school education is directed, managed and\/or controlled by a central or regional administration of a system of schools, it may also include persons involved in providing such services to schools.<\/p>\n<p>Examples of employees covered by this award includes:<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>A general employee of a school who provides:<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">boarding supervision services<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">classroom support services<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">curriculum\/resources services<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">instructional services<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">nursing services<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">preschool\/childcare services<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">school administration services<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">wellbeing services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>school operational services whose main duties are the support other services of a school, including:<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">construction<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">plumbing<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">carpentry<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">painting and other trades<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">maintenance<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">school facility management<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">security<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">gardening<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">turf management<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">cleaners<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">care takers<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">laundry work<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">working at the canteen<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">uniform shops<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">book shops<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">bus drivers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>The following employers and employees are not covered by the Educational Services (Schools) General Staff Award:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">teachers<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">principals or deputy principals<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">a bursar (financial administrator) or business manager<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">members of a recognised religious teaching order and\/or a Minister of Religion or employed for religious instruction, supervision of prayers or any other religious duties of a non-teaching nature.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Source: <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a A<\/a><\/span>.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"title-idx-2\" class=\"icon-anchor\">How are the hours of work arranged in the Educational Services (Schools) General Staff Award ?<\/h2>\n<h3>Hours of work<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Ordinary hours of work\u2014employees other than shiftworkers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Full-time employees<\/td>\n<td>The standard working hours for full-time employees are 38 hours per week, unless otherwise specified.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Part-time employees<\/td>\n<td>The regular working hours for part-time employees will comply with the provisions outlined in the Part-time Employees clause.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Casual employees<\/td>\n<td>The regular working hours for casual employees will adhere to the regulations specified in the Casual Employees clause and will not exceed 38 hours per week.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Averaging of ordinary hours: An employee&#8217;s regular working hours can be averaged over a specific period:<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">For curriculum\/resources services employees engaged in outdoor education or boarding supervision services employees, the averaging period can be up to 12 months.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">For all other employees, the averaging period can be either 2 weeks or 4 weeks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h3>Breaks<\/h3>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Meal Break<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">An employer must provide an unpaid meal break of at least 30 consecutive minutes.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">This meal break is mandatory for employees who work for more than 5 hours on a day.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">The meal break should start no later than 5 hours after the employee began working on that day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td rowspan=\"6\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Rest Break<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td>An employee is entitled to a 10-minute rest break for every 3 hours worked.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>The maximum number of rest breaks per shift is 2.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>If there are 2 rest breaks, the options are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">The employer and employee can agree to one rest break of 20 minutes.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">The employer may require one rest break of 20 minutes for employees in classroom support services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Rest breaks are considered as time worked.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>The timing of rest breaks is determined by the employer.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Rest breaks should not be scheduled immediately before or after a href=\"https:\/\/www.fwc.gov.au\/documents\/awards\/resources\/nes.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NES<\/a><\/span>) and the classification of the employee.<\/p>\n<h3>Annual
