As at March 2026, the award is consolidated up to the current pay tables on the award reflecting rates effective from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2025. Those rates followed the 3.5% annual increase to minimum award wages from 1 July 2025.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For fast food employers, compliance is not just about knowing the base hourly rate. You also need to apply the correct classification, casual loading, penalty rates, overtime triggers, break entitlements and allowances. That is where underpayments usually start.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"title-idx-0\" class=\"icon-anchor\">What is the Fast Food Award (MA000003)?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.workstem.com\/au\/glossary\/fast-food-award\/\">Fast Food Award<\/a><\/span> is a modern award that covers employers in the fast food industry and employees who fit within the award classifications. Fair Work states the industry includes taking orders for, preparing, selling and delivering fast food, mainly for takeaway, including food and beverages sold in food courts, shopping centres and retail complexes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Examples of employees commonly covered include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">employees taking orders, cooking and selling fast food<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">baristas in fast food shops or takeaway caf\u00e9s<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">delivery drivers employed directly by the business<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">supervisors<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">employees in charge of a fast food or takeaway outlet.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"title-idx-1\" class=\"icon-anchor\">Who does the Fast Food Award not cover?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Fast Food Award does <\/span><b>not<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> cover:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">caf\u00e9s<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">restaurants<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">coffee shops<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">bars <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or where the business mainly sells food and drinks to be consumed on the premises or offers sit-down and table service. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fair Work also states that it does not apply where the <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.workstem.com\/au\/blog\/restaurant-award-pay-rates-2025-updated-wage-guide\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Restaurant Award<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"><a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.workstem.com\/au\/blog\/hospitality-award-2026-27-pay-rates-penalties\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Hospitality Award<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/span> or<span style=\"color: #3366ff;\"> <a style=\"color: #3366ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.workstem.com\/au\/blog\/retail-award-rates-2026-pay-penalties-allowances-ma000004\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Retail Award<\/span><\/strong><\/a> <\/span>covers the employer and employee, and it does not cover delivery workers who are not directly employed by the fast food business.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"title-idx-2\" class=\"icon-anchor\">What are the Fast Food Award pay rates in 2026?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the award, adult minimum pay rates are tied to classification level. The current adult minimum hourly rates effective from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2025 are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight:
