rel=\"noopener\">Children&#8217;s Services Award [MA000120]<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"title-idx-0\" class=\"icon-anchor\">What is the Children&#8217;s Services Award?<\/h2>\n<p>The Children&#8217;s Services Award is a legal regulation in Australia that sets out the minimum employment standards and conditions for employers and employees in the childcare industry.<\/p>\n<p>It covers various roles within the industry, including daycare workers, nursery staff, family-based childcare providers, out of school hours care workers, kindergarten teachers, and pre-school educators.<\/p>\n<p>The award aims to ensure that employees in the childcare industry are treated fairly and receive reasonable pay and entitlements for their work<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"title-idx-1\" class=\"icon-anchor\">Who is entitled to the Children&#8217;s Services Award?<\/h2>\n<h3>Coverage<\/h3>\n<p>The Children&#8217;s Services Award covers employers and employees who work in the children&#8217;s services and early childhood education industry.<\/p>\n<p>Examples of the children services and early childhood education industry include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">long day care<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">occasional care<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">nurseries<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">childcare centres<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">day care facilities<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">family based childcare<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">out of school hours care<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">vacation care<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">adjunct care<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">in-home care<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">kindergartens and preschools<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">mobile centres<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">early childhood intervention programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Examples of employees covered by the Children\u2019s Services Award include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">child care workers<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">room leaders, co-ordinators, assistant directors and directors<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">support workers doing tasks such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, driving, gardening, maintenance and administrative duties.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The award also covers labour hire businesses and their employees who are placed with an organisation in the children&#8217;s services and early childhood education industry<\/p>\n<h3>Types of employment<\/h3>\n<p>An employee covered by this award must be one of the following:<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Full-Time Employee<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Part-Time Employee<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Casual Employee<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\">Engaged to work 38 ordinary hours per week, or an average of 38 hours worked over either a 76-hour fortnight or 152 hours per four weeks.<\/td>\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\">Engaged to work a specific number of hours, fewer than 38 ordinary hours and has reasonably predictable hours of work.<\/td>\n<td>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">There are no guaranteed working hours.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h3>The Award does not generally cover<\/h3>\n<p>The following employers and employees are not covered by the Children&#8217;s Services Award:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">carers in family day care<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">qualified preschool and early childhood teachers<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">child minders employed by fitness centres<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">early childhood physical education program providers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Children\u2019s Services Award doesn\u2019t cover employers and employees when they are covered by one of the following awards:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Educational Services (Schools) General Staff Award<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Higher Education General Staff Award<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Local Government Award<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Social and Community Services Award.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 id=\"title-idx-2\" class=\"icon-anchor\">How is the shiftwork arranged in the Children&#8217;s Services Award?<\/h2>\n<h3>\u00a0Shiftwork<\/h3>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Shift<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<td style=\"text-align: cycle.<\/td>\n<td>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">30%<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h3>Hours of Work<\/h3>\n<p>Ordinary hours can be 6:00am-6:30pm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Not exceeding a spread of hours over 12 hours per day when broken shifts are worked (i.e. an employee working two
