Business activity statement (BAS)

What is the Business activity statement (BAS)?

The Business Activity Statement (BAS) is a tax reporting statement that businesses in Australia use to report and pay goods and services tax (GST), pay as you go (PAYG) installments, withholding tax, and other tax obligations. It is typically submitted to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) on a monthly or quarterly basis, depending on the size and turnover of the business. The BAS provides a summary of the business’s sales, purchases, and other taxable activities, allowing the ATO to calculate the amount of tax owed or refundable.

If you are a business registered for GST, you need to lodge a business activity statement (BAS).

Your BAS will help you report and pay your:

  • goods and services tax (GST)
  • pay as you go (PAYG) installments
  • PAYG withholding tax
  • other taxes

*If you want to lodge your BAS, please refer to ATO.
